Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Table

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, fiends, and dark forces increasing in influence within the city.

Warning: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team features Teor (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might seem out of place, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

First, the group understands precisely where to head next after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose death started the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.

The traitor then paid off his liabilities and fled to a secure base in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the region and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their position as key figures in the influential clan could help the party enter places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character swore a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and Wicander defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This means them few options but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Seekers and Planners parties.

Fans can anticipate learning which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
